Marmolejo is a typical sleepy whitewashed village nestled amongst the olive trees at the foot of the Sierra Morena Mountains, Jaen, Andalucia. No spectacular landscapes nor historic buildings yet this town is set to become one of the prime tourist destinations in southern Spain. Within three hours of six international airports. Seville, Granada, Jerez, Madrid, the recently opened international airport of Ciudad real (combined with a high speed train from the airport to Cordoba) and Malaga and forty minutes from the national airport of Cordoba. Marmolejo is ideally located for tourism. At present there are moves toward making the airport of Cordoba, 40 minutes from Marmolejo, an international airport. This , needless to say would open up this area to a two hour flight from Ireland.

A number of years ago a consortium named 'key Resorts', that can boast as having Johann Cruyff the Dutch Football star as one of its members, expressed an interest In buying a beautiful area surrounding a lake in the mountains of the Sierra Morena mountains .........7 km from the town of Marmolejo. Since this time the land has been bought and work to construct this international golf complex is due to start. There have been a number of court cases brought by different parties opposed to this exciting new development, however, all signs appear that nothing now appears to be in the way of this work coninuing. In the summer of 2011 there was an article in the "JAEN newspaper" outlining the money and benefits golf courses were bringing to Andalucia and the conclusion was that what Andalucia needed were more golf courses as these appeared to be bucking the economic trend. So watch this space.:
